I'll admit it, I'm scared and confused

The election is in something like 27 days and I'm terrified. I honestly don't know what to do.

I love this country. I pray for our President and elected officials. I try to see the best in every situation, but the economy is a mess and no one seems to know what to do; the war seems to be caught in an infinite loop and no one can figure out how to gracefully break it; neither of the two candidates that I see running for President of the Greatest Nation on Earth seem very Presidential to me.

So what do you do when there is no good choice? What do you do when you are backed into a corner and see no path of escape?

Maybe Canada is an option, I hear they're hiring PHP programmers up there. Wink

No, but really. Has anyone ever heard the phrase "taxation without representation?" It was obvious that the American people did not want a $700 Billion dollar "rescue plan." Congressmen were overwhelemed with letters, phone calls, and e-mails begging them not to vote for this plan. Well educated economists that are really good at their jobs were saying that, if the bill passed, it would take twice as long for us to come out of this. Very few of our elected representatives seem to care. They think they know what we need. So, now we are rescuing a bunch of wealthy companies that made terrible decisions. Do you really think they are going to learn? Do you really think anything different is going to happen?

I've always considered myself a conservative and, therefore, a republican. I don't think any of the republican's up in Washington even know what a conservative it. I don't think they have any idea what a small government system should look like. I'm generally a Bush supporter, but he has done more to hurt the republican party and conservatism that anyone in history. He has been, by far, the most fiscally irresponsible President we've ever had. I understand that we are currently funding a war and, although I believe it is a necessary war, I think it has been somewhat mismanaged and has cost a lot more than it should have.

The problem is, I can't fix it and wouldn't know how to if I had the opportunity. I don't believe that big government is the answer. I don't think Jon McCain's plan to buy up mortgages from all of the irresponsible people that can't pay for them is a good idea; I think that Barack Obama's plan of adding a tax burden to already strugging companies is an even worse idea.

I wish that it didn't have to just be party-line republicans vs. part-line democrats.

I could go on and on ... but I think you get the point.

On a final note, I will say that I am blessed. I have a great job and a great wife and I can afford to pay my rent every month and there is food on the table and gas in the cars and cable on the television and internet on the computers. I truly am blessed and this is still the Best Nation in the World, but we need to pray.

We need to pray that we can continue to live in a nation with the amazing freedoms that we have been given.

God Bless ...
