Ignorance is Not Bliss

Ignorance is going to get us in trouble. Yesterday, I had someon comment on the McCain Palin sticker on my car. She looked me square in the eyes and said, "How can someone with an IQ over 12 vote for a Hockey Mom and an old guy?" Ignoring the personal insult, I told her I was not in favor of socialism, I don't like the idea of nationalized healthcare, according to the non-partisan budget committee McCain would spend less than Obama, and I simply think McCain is a better choice.

She looked dumbfounded. I asked her what she thought about Obama's economic policy and there was silence. I asked her about Obama's strategy for keeping the country safe and free from terrorism and, again, there was silence. She has no idea what Obama's policies are and she's accusing me of having a low IQ for making an informed decision.

Ignorance is going to destroy this country.

Listening to a report on Fox News this morning confirmed my fears. Undecided voters in North Carolina were asked about last night's debate and if it swayed their opinions. One person said that, after last night's debate, he was going to vote for Obama because Obama spoke better. He said, "I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but he says it with confidence and knows what he wants." One woman proclaimed that Obama had lost his mother to cancer and that's something we can all relate to, so she's voting for Obama. They said McCain may have experience but Obama has a Dream and that has earned him their vote.

These are not reasons to vote for someone. If those were reasons to vote for someone, we'd be electing used car salesmen to all the public offices.

If you want to criticize my choice of political candidate then please have real reasons. Don't make base assaults against my intelligence when you have no grounds to do so. I'll gladly debate you on why I believe the way I believe, but if you are just going to insult me and you're just voting for Obama because it's "the cool thing to do," then you have no place voting and you need to think before you speak.

Benjamin Franklin said "We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid." Stupidity and ignorance are going to drive this country into the ground if we're not careful.

Go vote, but before you do, learn about who you're voting for.
